Abstract

Brakes.-A brake for railway and road vehicles, gun carriages, ammunition wagons, and the like can be applied by hand, or automatically by backward pressure on the draw-bar, and can be locked in or out of action. The brake blocks G are carried on a bar H, which is connected by rods J to levers K, K' on a shaft L. When the brakes are off, a projection k' on the lever K rests in a notch in a handlever M, pivoted at 0. This handlever can be turned down to raise the long arm of the lever K and apply the brakes, in which position the cam-shaped end of the short arm of the lever M engages the projection k<1>. The lever K<1> may be locked by a hand-lever N, or it may be dispensed with. The draw-bar F has a stop 8 arranged to work against a bracket T on the vehicle. It is connected by an adjustable bolt Q to an arm P on the shaft L, so that the brake is applied if the vehicle overruns the tractor. The brake may act upon the wheel hubs, or upon drums on the wheels.
