Abstract
8397. Rowan, A., and Bonham, H. April 7. Dusting-appliances.-Letterpress type cases are freed from dust by the combined action of compressed air, agitating-mechanism, and suction. As shown in side elevation in Fig. 1 and in part -sectional end elevation in Fig. 4, the type case 1 rests on angle-iron supports 3 within an air-tight casing.closed by the cover 5. An air-compressor 6 is connected by flexible tubing 10 with a perforated pipe 11 supported in a frame adapted by means of a screw-shaft-19 to reciprocate along the machine, the direction of rotation of the shaft being automatically reversed by means of a projection 28 coming into contact with collars on the rod 27 controlling the clutch 26. The pipe 11 is provided with two spring plates 13 adjustable by means of spring clips 14 and screws 15. In order to disturb still further the dust in the type case, the latter is subjected to repeated blows from adjustable spring- controlled hammers 32 carried by the reciprocating frame and actuated by means of projections on a shaft rotated from the shaft 18 by bevel-gearing. The dust-laden air is removed by a suction fan 51 through an aperture 50. The compressed air may pass from the pipe 11 through curved 'freely rotatable nozzles 49 as shown in plan in Fig. 9.
