Abstract

7157. Tilston, E. March 24. Lubricating-pumps.-Relates to lubricators for shaft bearings such as are described in Specifications Nos. 23,859 and 23,859A, A.D. 1905. The pump barrel, which contains a thimble-shaped piston g actuated by an eccentric i on the shaft a, is formed as a hollow plug n screwed into and projecting within the bearing casing c. Admission holes n' are placed in the upper part of the plug so that dirt settling in the lowest part of the casing does not enter the pump. Oil is forced through a pipe j to a chamber k containing a strainer l, and thence passes through a passage m to the bearing. The pipe and chamber k may be dispensed with, the oil being forced through a passage z in the bearing. Packings y of leather, white metal, &c. are arranged at each end of the bearing to prevent the escape of oil. The pump may be arranged at a convenient point above the lowest part of the bearing casing. A pressure-tight joint may be formed between the piston and the barrel by means of packing and suitable grooves.
