Abstract
5965. Corell, G. M. March 12. Couplings; cut-outs; distributing.- Relates to an appliance for connecting conductors, particularly line-wires, and so arranged that, in case of breakage of a wire, the free ends thereof are disconnected from the circuit. The appliances may be arranged to connect up an auxiliary circuit on the failure of the main circuit. Fig. 1 shows one construction. The conductors 1, 2 are connected to plungers 13 sliding in plugs 7 screwed into a hollow cylindrical insulating body 4. A conductor 12 is fitted in a groove in the iusulator, and serves, when the plugs are in the position shown, to connect the conductors 1, 2. Should one break, a spring 16 forces the corresponding plug into the hollow body, so breaking contact with the conductor 12 and isolating the broken conductor. Fig. 2 shows a modified arrangement, by which, on the breakage of the line conductor 20, an auxiliary conductor 31 is connected up to maintain the circuit. The plugs 22, 22<a> are provided with inner contacts 27 adapted to bridge contacts 26 and complete a connexion through contacts fitted in slightly-modified connectors 33.
