Electricity, supplying ; actuating - mechanism ; coin action. - In an electric supply apparatus, the insertion of a coin allows the winding -of the clock-work controlling-mechanism and the switching on of the current at the main, a second switch being provided to allow the current to be used as and when desired until the energy paid for has been consumed. In Fig. 1 is shown the apparatus in its normal condition before the insertion of the coin, the clock-work being stopped by the lever n, which bears up against the escapement wheel a<1>. The coin, when inserted, falls beween two disks e, f, the latter (shown in dotted lines) fixed to the main spindle d of the clock, and the former mounted loosely thereon and secured to an operating-handle, the coin being held between pins on the disks. The coin connects the two disks, so that, on the handle being turned, the disk f and with it the winding-spindle of the clock is turned, thereby winding the clock and, at the same time, by reason of one end of the slot g in the disk f engaging with the pin o on the main switch c, operating this latter to connect the contacts c'. Meanwhile, the cam e<3> on the disk e has released the auxiliary switch b from the contacts b<1>, the contacts b<1>, c' being in series with the main terminals t, u, and at the same time has allowed the pivoted weight h to fall and engage the pallet of the escapement by the pin i to prevent the clock from starting, the lever n having been released by the arm l on the switch c. On the handle being returned to its initial position, the switch b is allowed to fall and release the pallet by means of its arm j, so that the circuit is completed and the clock-work starts. When the clock-work has unwound to a predetermined extent, the other end of the slot g in the disk f comes into contact with the pin o and releases the switch c, which returns under the action of the weight k, switching off the current and stopping the clock by means of the lever n. If, before this happens, it is desired to switch off the current, it can be done by turning the handle on the disk e, which releases the switch b and stops the clock.
