Abstract

4403. Risberg, J. V. M. Feb. 22. Butter.-Cream is cooled to a suitable temperature for butter making and passed into a centrifugal churn, which is also kept at the same temperature. A single apparatus is described for separating the cream from the milk and for making the butter. The milk passes from a tank 1 to a cream separator 5 of ordinary construction provided with an elongated neck 7, up which the cream passes to a vessel 9 with a double bottom 10, in which a spiral channel is formed by a partition 11. Into this channel water at about 16‹ C. passes by an opening 12 from a chamber 13 and pipe 14, escaping by an opening 16 and pipe 18. The cooled cream passes to a centrifugal drum 20, mounted on the pipe 7 and provided with double walls, between which cooling-water is introduced by the pipe 14, escaping by the opening 25. A cooling-device may be placed inside the drum 20. The cream is picked up by the tube 21 and thrown against the drum 20 in the usual manner. Specification No. 20,959, A.D. 1891, is referred to.
