Abstract

4266. Goodwin, J. M. Feb. 21. Hopper wagons; bodies.-The construction of side walls and bulkheads is particularly adapted for dumping-vehicles. Each side is built up of an upper member 3, a lower member 4 connected to the upper member by stays 6, and an inner member 5, all supported by the end walls L and forming a trussed girder. The member 5 is shown as an inclined plate, fastened to the lower edge of the channel-bar member 3, and braced from the lower angle-bar member 4 by wedge-shaped castings 7 to which the dumping- doors G are hinged by links B. Long vehicles may have sheet-metal bulkheads K, the upper flanged edges of which are preferably flush with the angle-bars 4. These edges are cut away at each end, and flanged gusset plates 8 are secured to the bulkheads by cleats 9 and angle-straps 12, angle-irons 10 being riveted on each side of the gusset plates. The channel-bar 3, angle-iron 10, and gusset 8 are secured together by a bent T-strap 13. The side walls may be inclined.
