Abstract
3136. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Feb. 8. Lamp signals.-Apparatus for giving coloured lamp-signals according to the position of the semaphore is provided with means for operating roundels of translucent material between the lamp and the lens, such means being controlled by the semaphore and the whole apparatus being enclosed in a casing which protects it from the weather. Electro-magnets R, G, Y are arranged in a circuit controlled from a switch on the spindle of the semaphore arm, which in the example shown in Figs. 1 and 3 is a three-position signal. The electromagnets R, G, Y when excited move the roundels r, g, y upwards by means of rods and levers h<1>, h<2>, h<3>, so that should any defect occur they fall to their lowest position, in which the roundel r of red glass is in front of the lamp and others g, y are below it, as when the arm is at 'danger.' In other positions, the circuit is closed through the magnet R and either of the other magnets G, Y in series, thus lifting the roundel r clear of the lamp and raising either of the others g, y into the signalling position.
