Abstract

125. Croft, F. L., Perkins, T. A., Croft, F., and Lindsay, H. Jan. 2. Clutches.-Relates to band friction clutches with parts which may be interchanged to transmit motion in opposite directions. The operating-sleeve 2 slides on the driven shaft 3 and carries links 5 which are pivoted to pins 10 sliding in holes in levers 6. These levers are secured by keys 9, placed at similar angles, to pins 7 carrying short levers 8 on their other ends, as shown in the back view in Fig. 3. The levers 8 bear on springs 25 loose on the end pins 24 of the clutch bands 12. The other band ends 15 are passed over pins 17 on the driving-arms 16 and are slotted to allow the pins 24 and springs 25 to pass through them. The pins 7, 17, bands, &c, are reversed if drive is to be transmitted in the opposite direction from the drum 13 on the shaft 4. Adjustable studs 31 are provided on the driven disk 30 for the bands 12 to rest against when out of action. The bands 12 may be provided with projections 36, Fig. 6, which bear on studs 31<a> on pins 32 in the disk 30 when the bands are disengaged, springs 35 on pins secured to the projections keeping the bands normally out of contact with the drum 13.
