Abstract

27,133. Cary, L. C. July 6, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Couplings, disconnectible.-Automatic train-pipe couplings which are carried by the car coupling- heads are shown in side view in Fig. 2, in section through the draw-bars in Fig. 3, and in section through the pipe coupling in Fig. 5. Coupling- heads 6 on the draw-bars 12 have a locking-device 7, 7<1>, and are also provided with right-angled triangular jaws 8 each having integral ribs 9. Pivoted locking-levers 10 have engaging shoulders 14 and outwardly curved ends 13, and are maintained in engagement by pivoted leaf springs 18. The coupling-heads are disengaged by a heel 17, shaft 15, and crank 16. Depending from the heads 6 are the pipe-coupling members 21, which have inclined engaging faces 23 and right-angled triangular lateral faces. The forward ends of the coupling - members have inwardly - projecting shoulders 25 adapted to make a locking engagement with hetols 26 on the other member. These shoulders also serve to keep the coupling-faces slightly apart while coupling, and protect the packing gaskets 34. Pivoted arms 27 facilitate the coupling by passing into a guideway 31 between lugs 32. The coupling-members 31 carry spring- controlled lugs 20 to permit relative adjustment. of the puts.
