Abstract
25,603. Roberts, F. C. Dec. 8 Charging.-Relates to charging-apparatus of the kind described in Specification No. 3834, A.D. 1902, [Abridgment Class Iron &c.]. In order to afford an even distribution of material, the ore discharged from a skip through an ordinary shoot F, whicn may run on rails f<1>, is received into a supplementary hopper C, symmetrically disposed above the main hopper, and consisting, in one form, of upper and lower parts and closed at the bottom by a bell D supported by a cross-bar d. The upper part of the hopper C is capab:e of horizontal rotation on wheels running in grooves c<12>, motion being received by means of gearing c<13>, c<14>, &c. from a motor c<15>. The lower part c' of the hopper can be lifted by levers c' &c. connected to a ring c' so as to discharge the contents on to the main bell B. The ring c<1> is under a flange of the part C', but is not further connected with it, thus allowing rotation of the part C<1>. As each skipload is delivered, the hopper C is given a partial rotation and the charge is dropped on to the bell B, or the hopper C may be continuously rotated. In a modification, the chamber C, Fig. 4, is made in one piece, and is closed by a bell D which can be lowered by a lever h connected to a ring h<1> and collar on a sleeve H<1> so that the bell may rotate with the chamber.
