Abstract

23,943. Greg, H. P. Nov. 21. Spindle apparatus.-Relates to arrangements of driving cords or bands for driving a series of spindles in mules, spinning, twisting, doubling, and winding machines in which the bands enter and leave the tin drums on one and the same side, and in which tension wharls are employed. Several systems of banding are described in the Specification according as the spindles are disposed on each side of the frame or not, and also according to the number of spindles driven by each cord. In Fig. 2, each band is shown driving four spindles b, two on each side of the frame. The band d proceeding from wharl 1 passes round the tin drum c to wharl 2, thence round the horizontally-mounted tension wharl e back to wharl 3, across the frame to the wharl 4 and completes the cycle at the wharl 1. The tension wharl e is mounted in slides on a bracket i and is controlled by a spring, weight, or weighted lever. The tin drum is set to one side of the centre line of the frame, and also with its upper or lower periphery slightly out of the plane of the wharls, to effect the necessary clearance. A rod or bar, fixed on one side of the drum, prevents any broken bands from lashing round the drum
