23,843. Orthmann, A. Nov. 18. Braid.-Relates to the production of imitation "cross-stitch embroidery, in which the pattern threads b, Fig. 1, run parallel to the plaiting-threads a. This effect is produced by taking the embroidery threads from special bobbins s, Fig. 3, Working on inner and outer races g, h adjoining the braid-race m, the bobbins s crossing the braid-race at intervals, causing their threads to lie partly below and partly above the surface of the braid a and producing patterns such as I, II, Fig. 1. The ground remains unaltered beneath the pattern threads.
