Abstract
23.441. British Thomson-Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. Nov. 15. ELectric railways; conductors.-The third rail of an electric railway is secured by insulating- fastenings to yoke pieces loosely hung from brackets preferably attached directly to the ties. As shown, the third rail 1 is suspended from the yoke 5, resting loosely on the top of the flange 4 of the bracket 3 secured to the tie 2. The rail is consequently not depressed, but supported by adjacent brackets, on depression of the tie 2 by the passage of cars. The yoke may consist of two similar members 6, the arms of which clamp insulators 9, protected by caps 10, against the rail 1. Laterally projecting shoulders on the bracket receive the ends of wooden shields 13, which extend from bracket to bracket and protect the rail.
