Abstract

23,213. Boult, A. J., [Mills, H. S.]. Nov. 11. Spring m o to r s for phonographs &c. are w o u n d by means of an electric motor which operates for a predetermined period of time when set in motion. The motor E, Fig. 3, is preparatorily operated to give the spring of the spring motor the required tension. The wheel F<1> is so adjusted that after winding the notch f<2> receives the lug f<3> of a contact-shifter F, thereby locking the wheel F<1> and leaving the electric motor circuit open. On depression of the lever G<5>, the stop H is withdrawn from the path of a projection d, Fig. 2, attached to the table, permitting the latter to rotate. The wheel G driven by the spring motor also rotates, and, as it nears the end of its revolution, a cam-stud g operates a lever G', Fig. 8, and withdraws a member F<3> to the position shown in Fig. 10, a spring F<4> at the same time drawing a member F<3> forward so that the shoulder f<7> engages the shoulder f<8> on the return movement of the member F<3>. When the cam-stud g releases the lever G<1>, the spring f<6> returns the member F<3> to its normal position, forcing the member F outwardly and closing the motor circuit. The wheel F<1> revolves with the winding-motor, being actuated from the wheel E<5> by the pawl F<2>, and the recess f<2> determines the stoppage of the winding-motor, the member F maintaining the circuit closed till the lug f<3> it carries again falls into the recess f<2>. The lever G<5> is normally held up by a spring, but on being depressed, is maintained in that position by the pawl G<4> till the wheel G has completed its revolution, when the recess g<3> causes it to be released.
