Abstract

21,755. Fawns, S., and Davies, F. E. Oct. 25. Hydro-extrartors &c. ; separators for granular and pulverulent bodies.-In a washing and separating machine for ore, pulp, and other materials, discharge ports P in the periphery of the bowl are regulated during the rotation of the machine by adjusting the relative speeds of the upper and lower parts of the bowl. The lower part C is driven by the bevel-gearing B, and it drives by means of a belt a vertical shaft S, which is connected by cone-and-belt gearing to the upper part C<2> of the bowl. The periphery of the upper part is cut away at intervals so that the ports P may be opened or closed by moving the belt B<2> on its cones. The ore &c. and water are introduced through the hollow spindle of the part C<2>, and they pass into the bowl through radial holes H beneath a plate F. Webs W are placed near the ports P in order to bank up the separated solid material. The water or other liquid escapes through the central apertures E to the trough R', and the solid material passing through the ports is conducted away by the inclined trough R'.
