Abstract

21,291. Boucher, L. J. B. Oct. 19. Locking nuts.-Relates to a nut lock suitable for fixing the parts of a motor. The bolt 1 is provided, in addition to the normal right-handed thread, with left-handed coarse threads or spiral grooves 3. On the bolt are screwed two nuts. The first nut 4 has a smooth bore, but has projections 5 which fit the groove 3 ; this nut is screwed up tight. The second nut 6 fits the normal thread and is screwed tightly against the first nut till corresponding sides are parallel, when tapering ho!es 8, drilled through the nut 6 and emerging at the sides of the nut 4, come into alinement, bevelled corners 7 between the nuts interrupting the bore. Tapered pins 9 of soft iron or brass are inserted in the holes, and emerge from the sides of the nut 4, the points being then bent at right-angles. To unlock the nuts, the clinched points may be straightened and the pins withdrawn, or, the latter may be cut by filing the exposed parts.
