Abstract
18,549. Cruse, H. Sept. 14. Casings; sliding valves. - A c o nstruction of valve casing applicable chiefly to sliding or full - way valves consists in forming the valve casing of two pressed, stamped, or wrought iron or steel dishes 1, 2, Fig. 1, which are flanged and united by bolts or rivets 3 passing through the flanges and through an intermediate caulking- ring 4. The caulking-ring extends into the casing so as to form a guide for the valve in connexion with a bridle 5 which is forked at the sides to embrace the caulking-ring. Instead of a flanged joint, however, the joint may take any of the forms shown in Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6. The valve seatings are on the ends of two flanged pipes or sockets 7 riveted or welded into the mouths of the parts 1, 2.
