Abstract

16,637. Snyder, J. G. Aug. 16. Sleepers; chairs; sound and vibration, preventing.-Relates to railroad sleepers, means for securing rails thereto, and a cushion for deadening the noise and vibration. Fig. 1 shows a sectional side view of the sleeper with a rail fixed in position. The sleeper consists of a metal casing or shell A filled by, or supported on, a substance such as concrete, and having near each end a recess B. The rails rest on cushions, each consisting of an upper steel plate L, an intermediate lead plate K<1>, and a lower zinc or deadening plate K, which are fitted into the chairs H seated in the recesses B. Plates E, retained in position by the bolts N, secure the rails to the chairs H and to the sleepers.
