Abstract
14,029. La Roche, A. July 7. Calks.-A roughing-attachment for horseshoes consists of a V-shaped piece 1 of wrought iron or mild steel which is screwed to the heels by steel calks 2 and is provided at the apex with a screw having a square head 3 which bears against a toepiece 4. A projection beyond the head 3 of the screw enters a hole in the toe-piece, so that the whole arrangement is tightened by turning the screw ; it is then further secured by a lock-nut G. The V-shaped piece is provided at each end with bevelled portions A, Fig. 4, which bear against similarly bevelled abutments F, Fig. 1, formed on the heels of the shoe, so as to prevent the arrangement from working loose. Specifications No. 3014, A.D. 1878, No. 370, A.D. 1879, and No. 18,413, A.D. 1888, are referred to.
