Abstract

13,792. Whitaker, R. G., and Harrison, G. H. July 4. Wringing-machines.-Relates to means by which a board hung in front of the upper roller with its lower edge opposite the opening between the two rollers is adapted, when the hand is brought against it, to put the driving-mechanism out of gear. The driving-pulley B and a toothed pinion b fixed to it are mounted loosely on one of the roller axles x<1>, and a toothed wheel C is fixed on the same axle. The wheel C and pinion b gear with a pinion d and toothed wheel D made in one piece and mounted to rotate freely on a sleeve or bushing E carried eccentrically and free to rotate about an axle e so that the wheels and pinions may be put out of gear with each other. Thus when the teeth are in gear, the motion of the driving-pulley is imparted to the pinion b and, through it, to the wheel and pinion on the sleeve E, which pinion in turn, gearing with the wheel C, rotates the roller axle x<1> and its roller. When the teeth are out of gear, the pulley Band pinion b rotate freely without producing any effect. Normally the teeth are held in gear against the action of a spring F by a lever G on the bar a on which the board A is hung. This lever engages a notch h formed in a disk H carried by the sleeve E. Thus when the hand pushes the board A back, the lever G frees the disk H and the spring F rotates it and the sleeve so that the wheels and pinions are put out of gear. They may be put in gear again by means of a rack 1 engaging with teeth on the disk H. A roller K may be used running freely in bearings in the side frames and capable of being depressed against springs k<1>.
