Abstract

13,659. Newton, H. E., [Hoe, R.]. July 3. Delivery apparatus; folding paper.-In a general arrangement of folding-mechanism, the sheet, folded to page size, first receives a transverse fold or "carrier fold," and then is folded into three preferably equal parts by two further transverse folds, making its length one-sixth that at the the start. It then may receive a final fold perpendicular to the previous folds, and is finally delivered by a rotary flier, or it may be switched off to a second rotary flier after the first fold. In the apparatus shown in the Figure, the paper gets its first fold by one of the blades 4 between the rollers 5 ; it then passes by the switch 17 either to a flier 50 and tapes 51, or to tapes 18, 19, and is then folded by the blade 8 at preferably one-third its length, between rollers 6, 6. The blade 8 again folds it between the rollers 7, 7, whence it passes over rollers 26, 27 to a reciprocating-blade folder 47 to the flier 48. The blade 8 is actuated by a wheel 15 gearing with the fixed gear 16. The blade 43 is carried by two links 45, 46 to receive a parallel. motion. The name of the publication is preferably kept outside through all the operations.
