Abstract
12,367. Sahlstr÷m, C. A. June 21, 1904, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Gases, treating electrically.-A cylindrical dielectric c is wrapped round with a flexible metal sheet a having punched-out tongues b, preferably triangular, in contact with the tube c, and forming the positive electrode. The negative electrode consists of a cylinder d of wire gauze in contact with the dielectric c. The whole is enclosed in a casing e having openings f for the passage of air. Several of the tubes q above described may be arranged in a known manner in a casing o on end frames p, and air may be forced through by a fan t. An induction coil or step-up transformer w may be arranged above the electrode casing. The Specification in the original form as published under the Act of 1901 describes also a form of apparatus in which flat dielectrics are used, the electrodes consisting of metal sheets with punchedout tongues adapted to be held in resilient contact with the dielectric, and another form in which these sheets alternate with wire-gauze electrodes, all in contact with the dielectrics. An alternative form of electrode is also described consisting of two thin sheets of leather glued together, and having a plurality of wire staples inserted through one of the sheets and having their points protruding all on one side. This subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification as accepted.
