Abstract

12,244. Guzik, S. June 13. Bending ; forging. -A machine for bending and upsetting rods, angleirons, &c. is shown in Figs. 1 and 9. The work 59 to be upset is gripped between two sets of jaws 43 which are operated by screws 48 passing through projections 44 on two blocks sliding in guides 2. One of these blocks is adjusted by the square-ended screw 8, and the other is reciprocated by a lever 7, pivoted at either 10 or 11 and linked to the bending-plate 13. A third block 4 carries a support for the work 59. The work 60 to be bent round a block 65 on the pivot 62 of the plate 13 is gripped, alone or together with a packing-strip 61, between jaws 50, and is pressed upon by a packing-strip 61, rollers in a frame 66, or a jaw 54 mounted on the plate 13, which is turned on its pivot by means of an arm 15, a screw 17, a nut 21 in a bearing mounted on trunnions, bevel-wheels 22, 24, 25, and a square-ended or belt-driven shaft 26. The screw 17 may be rotated by gearing 18, 19 and a winch handle. The projection 82 for the clamping-screw of the inner jaw 50 forms part of a pin eccentrically mounted in a block 31, which can be rotated in a block 30 and locked in any position by a setscrew 32. The jaws 50 are moved to the right or left hand by screws 32,39 and nuts 35, 40 provided with radial holes for a tommy bar or operated by bevel gearing. The outer block 82 may be slid by hand in the groove 37 and clampedin any position by a nut. The two screws of the jaw 54 carry pinions 56 gearing with a pinion on a square-ended shaft 58. The block 65 and inner jaw 50 may be replaced by a form 67 secured to the block 31, and the work may be prevented from bending upwards by a plate 68 having a projection 70 fitted with a height-adjusting screw 71, or by a set-screw carried by a bar clamped to the jaw 54.
