Abstract

10,933. Wiles, T. S. May 25. Ironing-machines.-The frame supporting the bearings of the ironing- rollers, which work in steam-heated beds, is adjustably mounted by means of toggle-jointed levers. A feeding- table and delivering-rollers together with a suitable train of driving-wheels are also described. As shown in Fig. 1, the clothed rollers 10, provided with endless tapes 9 for preventing articles from adhering to them, are resiliently mounted on the frame 12, which is supported on the main frame 1 by means of the pivoted arms 18, 19, 20,21, connected by the bar 26. The distance of the rollers from the steam-heated beds 2 can be adjusted by means of the worm-wheel 28, the toothed sector 27, and the crank attached at 17 to the bar 26. Two rollers 31, 32 are arranged at the delivery end, the distance between them being adjustable by means of the lever 42, pivoted at 43, and a connecting-bar. Further adjustment of the delivery rollers can be obtained by means of the nut 47 and spring 48. The feeding-apron 72, Fig. 6, passing over the rollers 83, 81 moves between the table 82 and the roller 73. The roller 81 is driven by means of a sprocket-wheel and a chain passing around one of the intermediate spur-wheels in the driving-mechanism. The sprocketwheel can be thrown into or out of gear with a clutch on the shaft of the roller 81 by means of a lever. The tension of the feed-band 72 can be regulated by operating the spring-controlling nut 90.
