Abstract
10,360. Cook, E. S., and Chipperfield, W. H. May 17. Pressure-regulating valves; piston valves.-A piston valve in a gas regulator is actuated by the fluctuation of bellows subjected internally to the outlet pressure. The gas enters the inlet a, Fig. 1, and passes through the chamber q and thence to the outlet r. A portion of the gas passes through openings in the top of the casing to the interior of the spring and weight loaded bellows g. The top of the bellows is connected to a piston 'valve d, perforated at o to equalize the pressure upon it. When the outlet pressure rises above the normal, the bellows are inflated and the piston valve is drawn upwards, thus partially or wholly cutting off the supply. The spindle is screw-threaded so that the position of the different parts may be adjusted and the compression of the spring varied. The spring may be dispensed with, if desired, and the bellows loaded with weights only.
