Abstract

9581. Braby, H. May 6. Vapour and gas burners.-A vapour or gas burner for heating and lighting is provided with a nozzle 5 of the form shown, consisting of an outer part 8 into which is screwed a hollow, conical inner part 11 with helical outlet passages 10 to give a whirling motion to the issuing vapour or gas. A small fan 3 is supported by a rod 4 in front of these outlets, so as to be rotated by the vapour or gas and mix it with air. The oil may be vaporized in a coil 2, the supply of vapour being regulated by a valve 15. When crude oil is used, the heating-coil is dispensed with, and the oil is vaporized by steam supplied with it. The burner may be used to heat a refractory body to incandescence, and when the burner is used for lighting it is desirable to supply it with vapour at high pressure. According to the Provisional Specification, the oil may be vaporized in passages bored in, or a coil cast in, a metal plate. The burner may be used with a mixture of air and other lighting or heating gas.
