Abstract

8990. Hofmann, J. C. April 28. Automatic instruments.-In actions for automatic pianos, the stroke of the hammers, and thus the force of the blows, is controlled by levers operated by the tune-barrel. The raising of the dampers is similarly effected. The hammers c are carried by springs b on a bar a which rocks continuously during the operation of the instrument. Each hammer is controlled by a bent lever f, g with a hinged portion h, which is deflected from its normal position, indicated in dotted lines, by levers k and projections v on the tune-barrel. The parts f, g are always deflected to the same extent, but the motion of the hinged ends h is limited by a plate n pivoted at x and controlled by levers p, actuated by levers t from projections l of varying heights. The dampers s, carried by springs r on the levers g, are raised by means of the bar y, which is pivoted at its lower edge and is connected by a link to a lever similar to the lever p, also controlled from the tune-barrel.
