Abstract
8533. Weeden, F. J. April 20. Chairs, couches, &c.-Relates to the adjustment of hinged scrolls for couches, chairs, and the like. Scrolls A, connected by a cross-rail H and hinged to bevelled blocks B, are fitted with curved racks D and with levers C, which are connected by rails I, K, pivoted upon bolts F, and balanced so that they automatically engage with the racks as the scrolls are moved. To prevent undue strain upon the hinges when the scrolls are in the lowest position, the levers C are arranged to engage with stops M as shown in Fig. 2. When in the highest position, the scrolls rest upon abutments L formed on the blocks B. According to the Provisional Specification, the invention may be applied to the arms or other parts of chairs, couches, &c.
