Abstract

7392. Good, P., Merewether, F. H. S., and Good, E. A. April 7. Coins, separating. - A sorting-till comprises, as shown in Fig. 1, separate shoots u, 3, 20, for gold, silver, and copper coins respectively, each having gauging-branches over the corresponding set of tubular change receptaclesf, h, o, from the bottoms of which coins may be removed one at a tine by the finger. Between each shoot and its mouthpiece a, b, or c, a rotary coin holder t, 2, or 19, having radial pockets, is provided, and the two outer holders are geared to the middle one, so that all turn together. A ratchet lever 38 at the centre holder is connected by a rod 39 and a cord 45 to a hinged flap in front of the tubular receptacles. A lever 40 with a spring 44 effects the reclosure of the flap. The breadth of the pockets is such as to admit several coins abreast, and during the rotation the smallest coins drop into the shoots first. Should two coins stick together, they are shaken apart by dropping at the bend of the shoot. Coin-handling appliances.-Each tubular receptacle 54, Fig. 4, of a series for coins of different denomination is provided with an inclined spring tongue 53, which makes a coin protrude slightly, when left with no weight of following coins upon it, so that it does not elude extraction by rising inside when fingered.
