Making metal fabrics. -A machine for constructing wire fencing, Fig. 10, consists of a series of rotary drums c<1>, Fig. 3, mounted on a shaft c driven by wormgearing, each drum bearing a circular groove c<2> into which the longitudinal strands i are fed from a reel. In the rim of each drum are placed dies g, to each of which are delivered from hoppers h<1> buckles h, formed with ears h<2> as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The dies are formed with grooves g<1>, g<2>, Fig. 6, corresponding in size to the grooves c<2>, and guards j are provided to prevent the buckles from being jerked out of the dies. The transverse wires k are fed into the buckles from a hopper l, provided with a guide n, by dies m<4>, Figs. 4 and 5, which are similar to the dies g and are carried by rotating disks m<1> provided with grooves m<3> and ridges m<2> engaging with recesses c<4> in the drums c. The clinching of the buckles is effected in stages by other rotary members o, p, r bearing dies. The fence may be crimped and wound on a reel rotated by a chain bearing teeth.
