Abstract

6860. Allan, J. March 31. Turnstiles, coin - freed. The angular rotation permissible being a right-angle, the spindle a is fitted with a four-toothed wheel d, Fig. 2, or a quadrantal coin carrier m, Fig. 5, and also with a ratchet b and spring detent c to prevent back motion. The coin having been inserted, the movement of the locking-slide g withdraws the stop e from the path of the teeth of the wheel d, or the corners m<1> of the carriers m, freeing the spindle a, which may then be turned through a right-angle, a tooth of the wheel d or a quadrant of the carrier m simultaneously engaging a stop f and restoring the slide g and stop e to their own original positions. The coin carrier m is brought to rest before it engages the stop e by the engagement of the spring p with the cutaway portion m<2>, the teeth of the ratchet being removed at b<1> to allow a slight backward motion of the carrier if forced past this position. The inserted coin passes through a common slot k<1>, Fig. 2, coupling together the slide g and push-rod k, until it is moved off a fixed supporting ledge and escapes. In the devices shown in Fig. 5, the coin rests in a common slot in the carrier m and slide g, and as the former is rotated bears on the cam-portion e<1> of the stop e, pushing back the slide g and then escaping through the slot o'. The push-bar k may be returned by a spring k<2> ; or it may be returned by hand, in which case it is adapted to close the coin slot when in its inner position.
