Abstract

6163. Gilardoni, H., and Leriche, H. Sept. 23, 1904, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Casting and moulding; castings.-Moulds for producing cores, which are employed for the electrodeposition of radiators of the honeycomb type, are made as follows : Tubes B, Fig. 6, of suitable section, for example hexagonal, are arranged vertically on a base-plate, the tube walls being half the thickness of the required partition between adjacent passages of the radiator. The tubes are pressed together and united by dipping into molten metal D, Fig. 7, which is allowed to cool. The empty parts are provided with plaster or metallic cement e, for holding the conical ends d, Fig. 8, of cylindrical or slightly conical hexagonal rods E. If desired, these rods may be placed in position before dipping into the metal D, which then serves to consolidate the whole and obviates the use of the cement e. Above the height of the required radiator, the rods E are cylindrical, b, and of a diameter smaller than a circle inscribed in the hexagon. The rods are arranged in the radiator frame or in a provisional frame, and are held true by a triple arrangement of parallel strips c, Fig. 13 ; after the whole arrangement has been heated, metal f, Fig. 15, is run in between the rods. After cooling, the part f with the rods E is raised, Fig. 16, and the rods are then driven downwards out of the part f into the base-piece B, D, which is then ready for another casting. If desired, channels g, h, through the parts D, E, may be provided to facilitate heating and cooling. The part f constitutes the mould or core upon which the radiator is electrodeposited.
