Abstract
3884. Franklin, J. H. May 13, 1904, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Chairs.-A folding reclining chair comprises a frame provided with sliding pivot plates in which are mounted spring-pressed pivots carried by the back, a seat hinged to the back and supported on rollers engaging with slots in the frame, and a leg-rest hinged to the seat and connected to the back by means of links. The back 12 of a reclining chair is provided with pivots 13 pressed outwards by means of a spring 14 and mounted in plates which may slide in the frame 10, the inner ends of the pivots being bent to form finger-pieces 13<a> projecting through the back ; the back 12 is further supported by rollers 16 mounted in the frame 10 and sliding in grooves formed in the back. A seat 17 is connected to the back 12 by means of a hinge 17<a>, and a leg-rest 18, provided with a foot-rest 23 and carrying a pivoted link 19 pivoted to a rod 19<b> extending downwards from the back 12, is connected to the seat at each side by means of a pin 20 projecting through a slot 21 in a plate 21<a> carried by the seat 17 ; the pin 20 is provided outside the slot 21 with a roller 22, which may run in a groove formed in the frame 10. The foot-rest 23 is carried by links 24 mounted in a frame 25, which may slide on the leg-rest, and is connected to the front end of the seat by links 27. The sides are hinged to the legs at 10<b>, and the other parts of the chair are adapted for folding.
