Abstract

2920. Garside, E. Feb. 13. Switches.-Resistance units for rheostats are composed of wire wound over a layer of insulating - material, such as clay, on a metal core a, Fig. 1, one end e of the wire being connected to the core, which is formed with a lug b t o be mounted directly on the contact-studs of the switch. Or the core may consist of a rod which serves merely as a support, the resistance being in this case made in taper form, as shown in Fig. 2. Contact-plates are arranged at the broad ends, and the resistances are mounted by their projecting cores to fit against one another to form a complete disk in conjunction with a switch arm pivoted in the central gripping-device.
