Abstract
2247. Albany Manufacturing Co., and Lamplough, F. Feb. 4. Condensers.-To avoid a centre core or body of water in the gilled tubes of radiators, steam condensers, and the like, the gilled tubes are provided with closed inner tubes so as to cause a thin film of water or steam only to be exposed for cooling. Means for attaching the gilled tubes to the tube-plates is also described. For this latter purpose, the gilled tubes are provided with flanges c at their ends and with flanged ferrules d which fit into the ends of the gilled tubes. The tube-plates are secured between the flanges by sweating or brazing. The inner tubes h are closed at the ends, with the exception of pinholes which may be left to prevent the formation of a vacuum in the tubes. The inner tubes may be filled with water to assist the cooling. The outer gilled tubes may be provided with indents or corrugations g near the top and bottom, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4; or these corrugations may be dispensed with and the annular space between the inner and outer tubes filled with a corrugated tube j, as shown in Figs. 7 and 8.
