Abstract

1527. Baynes, L. Jan. 25. Gas or explosive-vapour engines. - An apparatus for straining or filtering petrol &c., to be used for internal-combustion engines for beating steam boilers or for lighting, and for straining lubricating oil for motor cars, consists of a chamber a, in which a finely-perforated wire-gauze receptacle d is supported on a ledge a' by a flanged'. The flange is held in position by a spring handle d<2>, which bears against the screwed cap e of the casing. Liquid enters at b and passes out at either c or f. One of the outlets is usually closed by a cap f<1>, while the other as well as the inlet is provided with a union c<1>. When' used for the engine of a motor-car the casing is placed between the fluid-supply, tank and the carburettor. A bracket g is provided to hold the casing in position. The liquid may be passed through in the reverse direction, or the outlet c may be dispensed with. Two or more receptacles may be used surmounted by a series of flat gauze disks. The receptacle may be attached directly to the cap and the spring omitted.
