Abstract

29,575. Jackson, W. H. Dec. 31. Receipts, checking and recording.-A check till, comprising several improvements in the machines described in Specifications No. 7905, A.D. 1893, and No. 4804, A.D. 1897, is shown in Fig. 1. In this type of machine an entry is made on a strip of paper every time the till is opened, and such entry is duplicated on a strip which runs at right-angles to the former and is printed, dated, and fed out of the machine to form a receipt. Means are also included for displaying the coins tendered for payment. The drum 9 on which the registration paper is wound from the coil is operated by a pawl and ratchet from the operating-lever 6, and may be made in separate and independently-moved sections so that the various salesmen may keep separate accounts. In such a case a key, corresponding to the particular section, is depressed to put the pawl into gear, and the tili 2 may be correspondingly divided to keep the accounts separate. To fix the registration paper on the drum, a metal plate cut so as to form a number of prongs is fitted. The paper is pushed under the prongs and then turned back over them so that the prongs penetrate the paper, To prevent the till from being accidentally opened without an entry being made, a wrist plate 108 is provided, on depression of which a sliding plate 109 which normally covers the writing-space is drawn aside and a sliding bolt 111 is lifted and the drawer released. For displaying the coins tendered for payment, a drum 58 with eight compartments, each of which has separate divisions for gold, silver, and copper, is used. The printing-rollers 13, 14 for giving the date and other information to the receipt vouchers are operated by a rack 16 and pinions from the forked end of the operating- lever. A one-way clutch 23 is provided so that the rollers make one revolution as the drawer opens but are stationary as it closes. A stop 27 is provided to prevent the roller 13 from overrunning, and means are shown for relieving the pressure between the rolls. A rack 91 engaged by a pawl 96 which is lifted at the end by pins serves to prevent the drawer from being opened after having been partially closed without being fully closed.
