The spindle is in two parts A, B, hinged together at C, the upper part being rotated by fast and loose pulleys E, H, which are connected to the spindle by means of feathers and a groove I. The yarn is wound on to the lower part of the spindle by conical rollers K carried by a plate J, through an aperture in which the spindle passes as shown. The base of the part B of the spindle is provided with springs R for holding in position the conical base of the cop, between which and the plate or collar L the thread is held when starting the winding operation. The length of the cop is determined by means of an adjustable collar M.
