Abstract

27,619. Elphinstone, G. K. B. Dec. 17. Casting.-Air is exhausted from above the molten metal and from the mould, previous to pouring, and then compressed air is admitted above the metal to fill the mould under pressure. Airtight vessels a, c, Fig. 1, are separated by a partition b, carrying the mould, which has an opening communicating with the molten metal in the vessel a by a tube i. Air is exhausted through the pipe g and from the vessel c through the non-return valve f. Air under pressure, and if desired, heated, is admitted at h after exhaustion and forces the metal up the tube i to fill the mould. The metal may be melted in a crucible immersed in metal in the vessel a which will not allow the contents of the crucible to be overheated. The Provisional Specification states that the crucible might be heated by gas or electrically.
