Abstract

Electromagnets. -In electric bells and other similar apparatus, the sparks at making and breaking are suppressed, and the amplitude of oscillation of the armature increased, by means of a shortcircuited secondary winding on the electromagnets. The invention is described with reference to a bell in which a means of securing the gongs is also described. Round each of the coils of the electromagnet 11 is wound another coil 11<a>. These secondary induction coils are closed or short-circuited, and at the make and break of the primary they tend to suppress the spark and slow down the oscillations, thereby increasing the amplitude of the oscillation of the armature.
