25,778. Petit, A. N. Nov. 26. Phonographs &c.-A sound-box for phonographs and like machines consists of a back-plate 1 and a rim 2, to which is connected the air-escape pipe 3. Within this box is fitted in an oblique position a second box 5. containing the vibrating diaphragm 6 at a short distance from and parallel to the back, so that only a very thin air space exists behind the diaphragm. The sound waves are transmitted to the pipe 3 through a number of apertures 9 in the back of the box 5. In a modification, the back-plate 1 has a central projection 10, the top surface of which is plane and parallel to the diaphragm. The sound waves are then transmitted to the pipe 3 by means of the annular channel 11.
