Abstract

23,021. Day, C., and Dexter, W. A. Oct. 26. Condensers.-A jet condenser is shown in Fig. 1, in which A denotes the condenser casing, containing trays B having their edges formed as shown in Figs. 4, 5, 6, or 7. The object is to break up the water into cascades, to give a greater cooling-surface to the steam, and to allow the air to escape freely by the pipe H. Overflow pipes C are fitted to the trays to prevent the water from rising too high, and additional slots D are made in the bottoms of the trays. The steam inlet is shown at E, the water inlet at F and the discharge orifice at G. Instead of serrating or otherwise treating the tops of the trays, perforated pieces L, Fig. 10, of metal may be fixed to the sides, through which the water falls and is broken up.
