Abstract

21,309. Neu, L. Oct. 8, A.D. 1903, [date applied for under Patents Act, A.D. 1901]. Water levels, regulating.-The level of water in a reservoir is kept between an upper and a lower limit by apparatus shown as applied to a reservoir c fed by a steam pump. A vessel d, connected to the reservoir c by means of a flexible tube e and in communication with the air through a pipe f, is attached by a cord g to a counterpoise i to which the steam cock b is attached. As water is drawn from the reservoir, the level gradually falls in the vessel d until the counterweight is able to overcome the combined resistance of the steam cock b and the weight of the vessel, when the latter begins to rise. Immediately this movement takes place, a quantity of water flows from the vessel d back into the reservoir, so that the counterpoise rapidly falls to the bottom of its course, turning the cock b full on. The speed of motion can be regulated by placing a cock j in the tube e. A similar action in a reverse direction takes place as soon as the water rises again in the reservoir. The apparatus can be adapted to a tank or well sunk in the ground.
