Yarns and threads.-In the manufacture of artificial silk, the nitro-cellulose is dissolved in a mixture of acetone and ethyl or methyl alcohol, with or without the addition of glacial acetic acid, ammonium nitrite being added to the viscous solution obtained for the purpose of rendering the product non-inflammable and non-explosive.
