Abstract

15,465. British Thomson - Houston Co., [General Electric Co.]. July 11. Motors, controlling.-Motor - actuated hoisting- apparatus is provided with means for automatically stopping the hoisting operation when the load has reached a predetermined height, and also with means, controlled by the operator, for regulating the descent of loads. In Fig. 1, the winding-drum 5 is shown mounted on a hollow shaft having a keyway which engages a projection on the nut 13 working on the screwed part of the shaft 10. The rotation of the hoisting-drum is started by pulling the cord 1, Fig. 2, and thus rotating the controller 2, Fig. 1, to close the motor circuit. The rotation of the drum causes the nut 13 to approach the fixed nut 16 until the projections on each engage one another and cause the screw to rotate, thereby rotating the cam 6, Figs. 1 and 2. This cam then operates the spring-controlled lever 7, and causes the controller lever 9 to be moved to the 'off ' position. The screw and cam are both held in the normal position by springs. A method of adjusting the distance of the movable nut from the fixed one is described, and, in a modified form, the drum shaft is made solid and carries the screw and nuts on an extension which is carried in a tube secured to the cam. For lowering loads, the rope 25 is pulled, thereby operating the controller to the "reverse" position, and at the same time extending the helical spring 30 through the medium of the projection 28 and the removable pin 32 fastened in the framing. This spring stops the lowering operation on releasing the rope 25, and by suitably altering the position of the pin 32 can be made also to stop the hoisting operation, if desired, on release of the rope 1.
