Abstract
12,933. Bache, E. W. June 8. Spring wheels; tyres, elastic other than pneumatic. -A series of spiral springs are fitted, in compression, between an inner felloe and an outer flexible hoop on which is mounted an elastic tyre. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the inner ends of springs bare secured by bolts b<2> to a metal felloe or rim a, the outer end of each spring being fitted to a guardplate c which may be connected to the felloe a by chains f to prevent lateral displacement. A canvas or similar cover d has its edges clamped between the felloe and side rings d'. A flexible laminated steel band g is pierced by a series of headed studs g<1>, on which are threaded the plates c and a series of metal clips h holding the elastic tyre i in place. Undue compression of the springs is prevented by the stops g<1>, b<2>. In a modification, the springs are arranged in two rows in staggered relation, the side chains f being dispensed with. In each case, the degree of compression of the springs is such that they are materially uneffected by the normal load on the wheel.
