Abstract
10,534. Shaw, J. May 7. Smoke-consuming; firebridges.-Asbestos blocks are placed on the firebridge of a furnace to consume the smoke. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, two firebridges are built at a small distance apart so as to allow the air in the ashpit to pass through the opening B to the asbestos blocks, which are cemented or placed loosely on the bridges. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, asbestos or fireclay bricks are placed alternately flatwise and edgewise on a perforated angle-plate C, and asbestos blocks are preferably cemented to the tops of the upstanding bricks. In a third modification, the bridge or baffle D, Fig. 3, overhangs the grate.
