Brush-holders.-Relates to detachably securing the brush-holder to the carrying-spindle, and to means for obtaining a firm pressure between the brush and the commutator: The carbon brush c, coated with copper and provided with a flat brass plate d, is mounted in a holder a, electrical connection between the two being effected by a flexible conductor f, attached to the holder a by a split plug h and to the plate d by a screwed pin g. The holder is secured to the carrying-spindle by the grooved lug i and hinged cap j, the locking being effected by the hinged screw k and wing-nut l. The Provisional Specification states that the cap j is furnished with a screw which penetrates the spindle, thereby preventing the rotation of the holder about the spindle. On the other side of the holder are two lugs o, which support a pivot pin n on which is mounted an arm m. One end of the arm is adapted to bear on the brush c. A spring q, coiled on the pin n, has one end fixed and the other end adapted to engage with either of the slots r cut in the flange s on the arm m. The tension of the spring can therefore be varied at will, and, consequently, the pressure with which the brush bears on the commutator. When the brush is lifted from the commutator into the position indicated in Fig. 1 by dotted lines, the arm m bears against the side of the brush c, and thereby secures the brush in its raised position.
