Abstract

8096. Ingham, H. W. Denton-, and Jones, T. M. April 18. Electric railways and tramways on the overheadconductor system. Conductors. -Consists in means or devices for catching and supporting overhead electric traction cables or wires when fractured. Figs. 1 and 2 show a side elevation and transverse section, respectively, of one form of the device, and Figs. 4 and 6 end elevations of modified forms. Fixed to the supports which carry the overhead conductors is a steel or other wire W placed parallel with and preferably above the ordinary conductor R. From this additional wire are supported the devices A, B, or F, placed at intervals throughout its length, but insulated from it by the insulating-material w<1>. In the form of the device shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the two halves are made to grip both the wires W, R by the bolts a<3> or other means. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the lower portions of the two halves do not grip the wire R, but are pivoted to the part D to allow the trolley wheel to pass, the springs d<2> restoring them to their former position after it has passed. The lower portions may be made to swing or lift upwards as well as turn outwards. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the conductor is surrounded by a cage F, or its equivalent, throughout its entire length, or at intervals, the cage F being preferably suspended by a ball- or-socket joint or other arrangement from the part which grips the upper wire. The opening f<1> is formed so that the trolley wheel can move freely along the conductor R.
